Introduction:

“Brazil has everything, and a little more, to become the biomass Saudi Arabia. We have land, labour, biodiversity, extensive territorial area, and sun, a lot of sun, all year round. It is possible to turn Brazil into an enormous natural energy powerhouse".

Professor Bautista Vidal
Brazilian authority in energetic matrices.

The scarcity of world oil reserves and of other fossil fuels and by-products, such as coal and diesel, is currently one of the deepest international concerns. The scientific community, particularly in technological institutes of the industrialised nations, is conducting researches on fossil fuels, based on radical strategic changes and new energetic matrices.

Within this scenario, Brazil with its natural characteristics, gathers all conditions to free itself from the uncomfortable dependence on oil and its by-products. In Brazil it is possible to preserve natural reserves and, from them, extract pure and renewable energy, taking advantage of its privileged abundance in natural resources, achieving autonomy, sovereignty, and transforming itself into the world’s main renewable and environment-friendly energy supplier.

In most of Brazil’s regions, energy supply is among the determinant factors for many projects. In agribusiness and in the forest-based industry, the development process is closely related to its capacity of generating its own solutions. One of these aspects is the generation of energy from its own activity.

Forests cover approximately 66% of Brazil’s territory. This percentage is recognised by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) as one of the highest in the world. However, Brazil is responsible for a conversion rate for soil use of 0.6%, which is considered low.

Brazil has one of the widest biodiversities and the largest reserve of tropical forests in the world, as well as a large share in resources coming from planted temperate forests. In the primary sector, agricultural frontiers are gaining space, with large plantation systems such as soybean, corn, cotton, rice, and sugarcane, among others.

Objective:

The 3rd International Bioenergy Congress aims to discuss rational use of industrial residues from the basic industries, putting face-to-face technicians and experts from Brazil and other countries, which successfully use this technology that can be naturally adapted to different regions and standards of projects, at national level and  at international level.

The search for alternative sources of energy has proven to be a necessary priority that needs to be implemented. Some segments offer advantageous and economic options for helping increase energy generation capacity in Brazil. The high volume of residues produced by the wood and furniture industries, most of which, without rational use, is determinant for actions that aim at stimulating feasible alternatives and of low cost for the industries to take advantage from these residues for energy generation.

Its scope, however, also expands itself to other abundant raw materials such as sugarcane bagasse, rice residues, citric fruits, soybean, and, in many cases, urban waste.

There is profound interest in promoting the use of biomass for energy generation. Lack of information and incentives, productive or technological limitations, and the absence of motivation, on the behalf of the entrepreneurs are some of the difficulties.

Thus, parallel to the 3rd International Bioenergy Congress, the Organisation of the event, presents showroom of Products and Services related to technology in alternative energy production. The BIO Tech Fair - International Fair on Bioenergy and Biodiesel Technology.

The Expotrade Expositions Pavilion was specially designed to shelter events of this size and to meet the demand from the public we expect to attract for this occasion.

Market Potential

The potential number of participants, offering equipment, accessories, goods, technology, and services, is over 600 companies. Much higher is the number of companies, institutes, cooperatives, and municipalities that could benefit from the incentive and supply of adequate technologies for energy generation from biomass resources.

Segments that will be participating in the event:

• Manufacturers of generators, motors, systems, control, and transmission;
• Industries of debarkers, chippers, briquettes, industrial knives, etc.;
• Manufacturers of kilns, dryers, boilers, heating systems, exhausters, components, and parts;
• Machines for transport and log moving, wood, chips;
• Companies of components, tyres, lubricants, tools, packages, etc.;
• Log harvesting machines and primary wood processing machines;
• Tractors, loaders, forwarders, accessories, and components;
• Trucks, light trucks, service vehicles, and their accessories;
• Consulting, technical assistance, and planning companies
• Companies related to energy, wires, cables, equipment, transformers, controllers, transmission towers, etc.;
• Communication systems, telephony, stations, etc.

Public:

Since bioenergy is priority for Brazil’s economy, it will be of interest for several segments of industry, commerce, agriculture, and for public authorities.

The profile of the participants of the 3rd International Bioenergy Congress and of the BIO Tech Fair - International Fair on Bioenergy and Biodiesel Technology  is focused on businesspeople, technicians, researchers, students,  and professionals from the following areas: wood, panels, furniture, forestry, agriculture, agribusiness, cooperatives, juice industries, ethanol, energy generation enterprises and distributors, as well as governmental authorities, mayors, State and Municipal Secretaries for agriculture, environment, science and technology, universities, technological institutes, suppliers, and public services personnel. The agribusiness sector will be highly benefited by the event.

The main objective, particularly in regions that gather important factors, such as a high supply of biomass waste and/or limitations in electric energy supply, is to generate individually or through education, important initiatives as a form of guaranteeing future supply of electric energy, relieving concentration upon regional differences.

Support Structure:

An event of international proportions demands a structure of support based on knowledge, experience, and exchange of information.

The work involves authorities from promoting and sponsoring entities, responsible for the basic guidelines, acting with strategic, political, and economical background in the event.

The definition of the subjects, as well as their respective speakers, will involve renowned University professors and respected technicians from research centres, who will cover all issues related to Bioenergy, Biomass, Biofuels, and other similar areas.

A marketing structure will be set up, which will directly work on the process of organisation, economic feasibility, preparation, and production of material for necessary support for making the event happen.

Porthus Eventos, which has its headquarters in Curitiba, will co-ordinate the event, working on its feasibility and on the entire organisation process, with the support of several Brazilian entities and universities.
